Use Your Emotions to guide you towards what you truly want

The emotional scale exercise as the original version of this concept was first developed by Abraham Hicks.

I was gifted with this exercise during a coaching session with one of my spiritual teachers who was encouraging me to see the gift in the anger I had released..even though at the time, the rage in my body felt destructive and somewhat scary. I didn’t know if I could contain it all and I was terrified of the strength I felt it was conjuring from the base of my being.

I was right.

 

Anger was powerful – anger saw me making powerful decisions for what I was a stand for in my own life, and also what I would no longer be tolerating.

 

There was a long way to go from anger. Anger felt red hot and I was desperate to ground myself in the peace, joy, freedom and love.

The leap from anger to joy,empowerment, freedom seems too far and so often we feel stuck in our emotions.

The Ladder of Emotional Ascension supports us in giving us a visual representation for the emotions we can expect to experience as we work progressively to move from the emotional state we are in – to the next emotional rung.

 

Any step up and away from rock bottom is a positive…even if you arent feeling joy, love, freedom and all the emotions you desire to make your new baseline.

We use this ladder to support us in articulating how we feel about a situation or circumstance and it can also be used to help us create affirmations that will see us moving up the ladder to the next emotion.

Our thoughts determine how we feel and vice versa – so this ladder can help us in identifying the thoughts that would be associated with each emotional state and working to consciously curate the thoughts that support the way we want to feel -keeping in mind that we don’t have to try and “skip” rungs on the ladder.

 

As an example, using this ladder we can feel the permission to feel pessimistic without our own judgement, acknowledging that its an improvement since feeling the desire for revenge.
