Pendulation & Somatic Activated Healing

This weeks session is going to be an opportunity for strengthening our capacity for pendulation. This was a term coined by Peter Levine, and in our SAH Method practice I will be very gently offering an experience that touches on this.

In simple terms, pendulation is like the rhythmic back-and-forth movement of a pendulum. In the context of somatic experiencing, it refers to the natural, alternating flow between sensations of tension or stress and sensations of relaxation or relief in the body.

Imagine your body as a pendulum swinging gently between the sensations of tension and release. When we experience stress or trauma, our bodies often get stuck in a state of heightened arousal. Pendulation involves gently guiding the body through this natural rhythm, helping it shift from a state of tension to relaxation and vice versa.

This process supports the nervous system in finding a healthier balance and aids in the release of stored tension, contributing to a more resilient and regulated response to stress and trauma.

So, in essence, pendulation is about fostering a natural, back-and-forth movement within the body, promoting a sense of balance and well-being.
